York Botanic Art Prize 2020

Exhibition 2 November 2020 - 3 January 2021

We are pleased to announce the York Botanic Art Prize 2020 Finalists.

Hundreds of entries were received from across Australia and the selection panel was impressed by the quality and diversity of proposals, with artists embracing the Prize's theme of botanic art in the expanded field.

The final judging will take place at Gallery 152 and the winner will be announced on 1 November 2020. This year's judges are Professor Kingsley Dixon, Helen Turner, Gregory Pryor and Angela Stewart.

The exhibition will run from the 2 November 2020 - 3 January 2021.

During the exhibition visitors will have a chance to vote for their favourite work, with the People's Choice Award to be announced on 2 January 2021.

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Expressions of interest now open to 12 July 2020

Western Australia is renowned worldwide for its incredible diversity of plant life, with some of the richest biodiversity on the planet and a large percentage of species being endemic to this land.

To celebrate this abundance of unique flora and highlight the importance of its conservation, Gallery 152 and the York Branch of The Wildflower Society of Western Australia have launched the York Botanic Art Prize.

Expressions of Iinterest are now invited for the inaugural Prize from artists working across a range of mediums, including, and not limited to, painting, mixed media, works on paper, digital, video, photography, sculpture, and textiles.

Botanical art in Australia has undergone somewhat of a renaissance in the last 10 years; however, unlike other botanical art prizes, we're not looking for scientific illustrations nor necessarily representative work - the only limitation being that work must directly relate to the theme of Western Australian flora and make reference to specific WA species. Artists whose work challenges traditional notions and conventions of botanical art, in a sense 'botanical art in the expanded field', are encouraged to enter.
